Who We Are
DSSCWA, based in Chennai, is a support group (NGO) formed by parents of mentally challenged children and adults. The organisation was founded in 2005 and has been operating successfully and gaining ground steadily ever since. The members are engaged in vocational activites, making various products that are sold to customers.
What We Do
Work
Our members engage in various daily-vocational-activities like weaving (guided by our weaving master), making pile carpets, making arecanut plates, preparing juice concentrates, bag-making, producing dhoop and incense sticks and painting diyas, among others. These products are directly sold to customers or through sales organised at gated communities, workplaces and rotary club events. The special children accompany the volunteers to these sales.
Physical activities
All the special children and adults have fun playing outdoor games like cricket, table tennis and other creative games. They also have regular Yoga sessions. These physical activities keep them fit and fresh.
Celebrations!
We at DSSCWA love to celebrate the members’ birthdays as a special occasion. The annual Saraswati Puja is also a much awaited extravagant celebration at our workshop.
